Amanda is a university & careers counselor and teacher with more than thirty years of experience across disciplines and continents. With a BA in History from the University of California at San Diego, a MS in Geography from the University of Nevada, Reno, Amanda completed her teacher training at San Francisco State University and is also certified to teach English as a Second Language (TESOL/TEFL). Amanda received her certification in College Admissions and Career Planning from the Univeristy of California, Berkeley.
Amanda’s professional journey reflects a deep commitment to guiding students through pivotal transitions in their academic and personal lives. As a seasoned counselor and educator with extensive experience in international school settings in Hong Kong, the US, and now the MENA region, she brings the skills, vision, and dedication needed to support students from all backgrounds on the pathway to realizing their future aspirations.
In addition to her classroom experience working with students of all skill levels and ethnic/cultural backgrounds, Amanda has more than ten years of experience as a varsity coach (Basketball and Track & Field) and is a certified yoga instructor (YTT200).
Focusing on a holistic approach to nurturing each student’s self-awareness and aligning their academic pursuits with meaningful and joyous long-term career aspirations, Amanda believes every student’s journey is unique and should be approached with a personalized framework, which lends itself to creating a culture of academic excellence, character development, and global citizenship. In addition to individual counseling, she is committed to fostering an environment where students feel empowered to explore and pursue their goals by inspiring their innate curiosity, critical thinking, and resilience.
Always a unique voice within any group, Amanda understands the fundamental importance of not only finding one’s voice but embracing it with confidence and clarity – especially in a world often overwhelmed by a chorus of conformity.
