Amanda was always helpful in providing valuable feedback on my essays, whether it was restructuring the flow or thesis to more simple things like rewording lengthy sections.  I felt that my work often displayed a deeper thoughtfulness compared to my peers and I like that Amanda was very personable and engaging as a teacher. She also had great versatility - she was able to help me on different areas including SAT prep, AP prep, class essays, college applications, and more.

Amanda was able to help my son with his University application essays, encouraging him to find his own voice and choose the most appropriate themes. She has a wonderful approach to supporting the writing process so that the final essays represented my son's best work and reflected what mattered most to him. Her knowledge of what the Admissions officers are looking for, and her pragmatic and collaborative way of working with students, gave us confidence during the stressful application process. There's no doubt that Amanda's input contributed to the positive response my son received to applications to some of the leading science universities in the US.

Amanda was my Government/Economics teacher as a senior in high school, and she was also my basketball coach for two years. When it came time to start looking for colleges, Ms. Levin helped me choose a school that would be the right fit for me. She took time to learn about my strengths and preferences, before writing me what I can only imagine was a powerful and heartfelt letter of recommendation. She guided me to what turned out to be the school where I ended up returning for a Master’s degree: The University of San Diego (B.A. 2003 and M.A. 2015). She suggested I ask my parents to take me to the campus to get to know the everyday culture of the university (something I know she would have arranged, had we not had the resources to do so). Ms. Levin has a knack for connecting people and places, and with her teaching and traveling experience, she helped not only prepare me for my future- she gave me the little boost and catapult forward that I needed. If I can offer any other specific information about Ms. Levin, it would be my pleasure to do so. She helped me so much.

As my English tutor in Hong Kong Amanda gave me instant feedback in my writing, which allowed me to immediately correct and apply elsewhere. When in-person tutoring was not possible, Amanda used the "track changes" function in Microsoft Word to highlight problematic sentences in my essays, along with suggestions of change in sentence structure / word choice. One thing I took away that I have never forgotten is: Writing = communication; small improvements in sentence structures and choice of words have a huge impact on how others perceive you.
