Finding the ideal university fit for all students

The transition from secondary to post-secondary education is a wonderfully strange combination of celebrations and challenges for our students. This can be especially true if students are also making the transition from international settings to a US university or vice versa. One of the most important factors to determine student success in university is focusing on finding a place of study that best fits the student. Wherever you are in the process, I am here to help.

  • More than 30 years of experience working with high school seniors, both in the US and overseas
  • Experience in a wide range of school settings, private settings, and an equally diverse range of students
  • Clear processes for working with students and their families to clarify goals, priorities, and necessary resources as they matriculate

Working with students and their familiar, we focus on articulating and refining the students’ goals and outcomes related to university for effective list building considering location, variety & caliber of programs, school character & student life, and financial considerations.

One of these practices is based on the work around Narrative Psychology by Northwestern’s Dr. Dan McAdams allowing us to work together to create stories that capture not just what we have done, but who we are, and our hopes for the future.

Because of her deep knowledge in the area, working with Amanda helped me to gain a deeper understanding of US History beyond what I could read in my textbooks. She also guided me on my college applications and essays. She is obviously an excellent writer herself, and was able to help me bring out my own voice in an eloquent way. When Amanda was my tutor in high school, I loved the way she added life to learning mundane topics. I didn't feel like she was teaching me facts on the whiteboard, rather we would have discussions that made the content more memorable for me. I looked forward to my sessions with her. After I graduated high school, she continued to keep in touch and support me when I was in college, and after that with my career. No matter how busy she is, she always makes time for her students. I would hands-down recommend any student to work with Amanda.

Ms. Levin was an incredible resource in High School because she challenged her students to critically think beyond the surface. Through humor, insightful conversation, and intelligent research, she brought relevance to every class subject. Above all, Levin inspired me to be curious, to question, and to research - life skills that I have carried with me into my professional career.

Ms. Levin taught me to approach issues from a multitude of angles rather than one and she is always very responsive when you need help, whether you know it or not. I learned this the hard way sophomore year, when I wasn't applying myself fully and she let me know that I would need to complete extra credit to help me get a grade above a C. She definitely won't force you to do anything, but she is extremely motivating. She holds you accountable.

Amanda was my basketball coach and also my teacher and she always helped me see things from different perspectives and taught me not to give up when things get hard. Amanda never compromised her demeanor: she taught and treated us all the same. No one was ever babied or given sympathy, you held up to high standards and challenged us to be more responsible individuals not only with our school work but in life.

As my teacher and coach Amanda taught me that skating by with minimum work wasn’t going to get me to where I needed to be.  I should push myself past my “limits” to achieve my goals. Sometimes it was really hard but she pushed us because she cared. That plays a huge part in my current career I learned to keep pushing myself out of your comfort zone. So many good things happen when you do.

Supporting all students through educational transitions

Drawing from my experience as both an ELA instructor and as a Social Scientist, I encourage students through a variety of activities, to take ownership of their personal narrative, their choices, and their ambitions.
